The Truth Behind The Most Common YouTube Myths

Separate fact from fiction and boost your YouTube success! Discover the truth behind common myths:

• Myth 1: The more subscribers, the better the ranking

The quantity of subscribers is not considered a ranking criteria. You can have a million subscribers and still receive fewer views and engagements than a channel with only 5,000 followers.

Your subscribers are an excellent technique to increase the number of views on your posted video quickly.

• Myth 2: Higher Quality Videos Will Get Higher Rankings

No matter how amazing, fascinating, or innovative your video is, YouTube has no motive to rank it high for the following simple reasons: The YouTube ranking algorithm is simply a computer.

When it views your video, it does not experience feelings of wrath, disgust, or surprise; as of 2024, computers cannot achieve that.

• Myth 3: Revenue Comes Only from Video Views

While video views can help generate cash through adverts, YouTube also offers a variety of additional monetization possibilities.

Channels can diversify their revenue streams by pursuing subscriptions, merchandise sales, affiliate marketing, and sponsored content.

• Myth 4: Videos With More Likes Rank Better

Not from a technical perspective, YouTube does not punish dislikes. In reality, Google will rank the video better if people interact with a like or dislike similarly.

Before YouTube made dislikes invisible, many would drive users away, resulting in fewer views or lower retention rates. That was one of the reasons YouTube removed it in November 2021.

There is more reason to believe that YouTube does not care about likes and dislikes.

• Myth 5: The Longer My Videos, the Better the SEO

I frequently hear that longer videos will increase your reach, bring in more subscribers, and even rank higher, but that is not accurate at all.

One-minute videos can be just as effective as twenty-minute videos. Do not force oneself to create videos of a set length.

• Myth 6: Text on Thumbnails is Necessary for Clicks

This is a myth, largely because there are other ways to produce YouTube thumbnails. The decision to include text on your graphics is determined on the type of content you are creating.

If you’re a vlogger, you may not always require thumbnail text. Your videos typically have a loose storyline, and viewers do not anticipate a detailed overview before clicking.

• Myth 7: YouTube Shorts Can Hurt Your Channel

We’re pleased to announce that Shorts will not harm your channel. In fact, they could assist you obtain more views on long-form videos by providing similar links.

The main thing is to comprehend exactly what you’re getting from Shorts. Your content may reach new audiences thanks to YouTube Shorts. They may not become dedicated watchers, but have extra eyes on your content.

• Myth 8: Expensive Equipment is Required for Viral Videos

This is a myth, especially because it applies to every YouTube channel. The truth is that most channels can thrive with simple smartphone footage.

It’s understandable if a cinematographer has crystal-clear footage from a high-end camera, it makes sense that a photographer would use modern technology to take better images.

• Myth 9: AI Usage Will Ruin Your Channel

If we learned anything from last year, artificial intelligence is here to stay. This isn’t new in the content economy.

YouTube’s AI-powered algorithm has been serving users for years and has gotten remarkably effective. However, designers’ concern about adopting AI is understandable, especially given that nothing is fixed in stone.

• Myth 10: Subscriber Count Determines Revenue

While some larger channels produce more money, this is only sometimes due to a higher number of subscribers. What matters most is the topic that someone covers on their channel, often known as their YouTube niche.

• Myth 11: Trending List Requires Specific Posting Times

While posting at the best times helps boost visibility, the YouTube trending list is determined by audience participation rather than posting times.

Instead of manipulating posting schedules to rig the system, creators should focus on developing interesting content that resonates with their target audience.

• Myth 12: YouTube Has Shadow Banned Your Channel

Simply put, shadow-banned implies that YouTube is preventing your content from reaching more users. The ghost of shadow banning haunts every creation.

However, shadow banning on YouTube is extremely rare. Most video recommendation or visibility difficulties arise from algorithmic processing or content rules.

• Myth 13: Small Channels Can’t Make Money on YouTube

Even small channels can monetize their content through various methods, including affiliate marketing, sponsored content, and item sales.

Investigating these choices and identifying the best monetization approach for your channel is critical.

• Myth 14: Quantity Trumps Quality

According to new makers, more videos equals more views. In their quest for additional videos, they need to catch up on the quality of their content.

There is a well-known adage about content: “Content is King.” So, if content is king, quality is queen. To conquer the world of YouTube, you must have both.
