Are There Any PS5 Titles For Horse Racing Fans?

Okay, let’s talk about a sensitive topic for horse racing fans – games. Now, first things first, there aren’t many horse racing games, especially not for current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5.

But why? Isn’t horse racing one of the oldest sports in the world with millions of fans worldwide? Well, yes, but most of the people interested in horse racing aren’t really playing video games, so the market is quite small, which is why most developers choose not to invest millions into making horse racing games in the first place.

With that said, some titles have managed to sneak through, and they are actually fun to play. Yes, most of them, if not all are released for PlayStation 4, but they are also playable on PS5, but don’t expect RDR2 attention to detail.

So, which are the best horse titles that every horse racing fan should play?

Top PS5 Horse Racing Titles

Now, let’s get to the good stuff. Here are the PS5 games that’ll have you feeling like a jockey in no time.

1. Phar Lap: Horse Racing Challenge

This is without a doubt one of the best horse racing games ever released for the console, and it is developed by PikPok, which is a game developing studio that specializes in horse racing games.

Now this is an old title, but despite the fact that it was released in 2019, it still gives you that horse racing vibes and gives you full control of your journey.

And when we talk about full control, we actually mean full control. You are in charge of taking care of your horse, breeding operations, strategies, managing your stable, finances, and the whole deal.

So, it is not your average horse racing game with a random outcome. Each horse comes with different abilities that can be improved by training, and the best thing is that the game features an online mode where you can compete with your friends.

In other words, it is quite a complex game that also involves strategies in order to win more races. Who knows, maybe these strategies will help you in the TwinSpires horse racing betting tournaments.

It is basically a horse simulation game that will give you an idea of what is like to become a racehorse owner and all the struggles that come with this job.

Now the graphics are not exactly Red Dead Redemption 2 level, but still decent, even for modern times. I don’t know why but the gaming world hasn’t really upgraded the visuals in the past 5 years.

After all, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released back in 2018, and we still haven’t got a more visually pleasing and realistic game.

This means that Phar Lap still offers decent graphics, and it is quite fun to play.

2. Winning Post 10 (2024)

This is the latest horse racing game from the Winning Post series (although they have another coming in early 2025).

Since we are talking about a recent release, doesn’t that mean that the game is better than Phar Lap? And if it is, why it is in second place?

Well, this game has its issues. Although the mechanics and the graphics of the game are quite good, the game is not really designed for the global market. It is basically a Japanese game, without a language change mode (sadly).

Although previous versions of the Winning Post series came also in English, the developers decided not to go for the Western Market with their latest game.

The new 2025 edition is coming soon, and we are excited to see whether they will change something in the game to make it more playable worldwide.

3. My Little Riding Champion

This is not so much a horse racing game, but a horse care and simulation game. Yes, you can compete in events, but if you are looking for that adrenaline rush and betting, you should definitely go for the other titles we mentioned.

My Little Riding Champion is a laid-back casual game that is designed for horse lovers in general.

You are tasked with taking care of your horse, training your horse, breeding, and competing in various events in a quest-like form.

As for specifically horse-related titles, that’s it. There are other games like Champion Jockey G1 and My Riding Stables, but to be honest, they are quite terrible games and released more than 15 years ago.

Honorable Mentions

While the PS5 library of horse racing games is still growing, there are a few other titles worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre.

1. The Sims 4: Horse Ranch Expansion

Okay, this one’s a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. The Sims 4: Horse Ranch Expansion lets you live out your equestrian dreams by raising, training, and riding horses. While it’s not a traditional racing game, it’s a great option for fans who want a more relaxed, life-sim experience.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2

Again, not a horse racing game per se, but Red Dead Redemption 2 features some of the most realistic horse mechanics in gaming. You can bond with your horse, customize its gear, and even participate in impromptu races with NPCs.

Final Words

Yes, the horse racing gaming world may be limited, but the titles we mentioned in this article can still bring you the thrill of the sport.

So, if this is your first horse racing game, lower your expectations and try to be open-minded.
