A Business Mind’s Journey with Ayahuasca

After 37 years building and selling a software business, I found myself at a crossroads. The rise of generative AI and the anxieties surrounding human obsolescence sparked a profound question: what truly distinguishes us from machines? This led me to explore the depths of human consciousness, and eventually, to ayahuasca. My initial approach was pragmatic, a business-minded inquiry into the potential of psychedelics to unlock new opportunities. However, the journey revealed a much more profound and personal transformation.

The Business of Being Human: Intrigued by the raw, grounded nature of ayahuasca, used for millennia by indigenous cultures, I sought to understand what wisdom they held that we, in the West, had lost. My intention was to explore psychedelics as a tool for understanding human potential in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. I wanted to see if and how I could leverage the insights gained into new business ventures.

Beyond Commercial Intentions: While I didn’t find the clear-cut business solution I initially sought, I discovered something far more valuable: a deeper connection to myself. Ayahuasca provided access to my subconscious, fostering a newfound relationship with nature, my own being, and the interconnectedness of all things. The experience transcended a simple business transaction, revealing the complexity of human consciousness and its potential.

A Renaissance of Consciousness: I believe we are witnessing a renaissance in the understanding and application of psychedelics. It’s not just about individual self-discovery; it’s about exploring how these experiences can contribute to societal well-being. I believe that these experiences should be normalized, much like they are in indigenous cultures, and used to improve our lives.

Rejuvenation and Reconnection: Ayahuasca has gifted me with a renewed sense of energy and mental clarity. While my physical body reflects my age, my mind remains sharp, dynamic, and imaginative. I’ve found that age is no barrier to exploring these experiences. I’ve shared ayahuasca with friends my age, witnessing their own transformations.

The Power of Shared Experience: I strongly believe that ayahuasca is best experienced in a group setting. Witnessing others’ intentions, experiences, and integration processes is incredibly valuable. The supportive, unspoken connection fostered within the group is powerful. It’s important to understand that ayahuasca is not a recreational pursuit. It requires deep introspection, intention, and a willingness to confront challenging emotions.

The Work of Integration: The true work begins after the ceremony. Integrating the insights gained is an ongoing process, not a quick fix. It requires dedication and effort, similar to breaking any ingrained habit. It’s a long-term commitment to personal growth.

A Worthwhile Journey: Despite the challenges, the journey with ayahuasca has been profoundly worthwhile. It has opened my mind to new possibilities and deepened my understanding of myself and the world around me.
